1. Marriage License

Step 1.

Requesting certified copies of your marriage license.

Contact the Town Clerk’s office where you applied for and picked up your marriage license pre-wedding.  There is usually a small fee ($5-$10) when requesting certified copies, but they are necessary.  Notarization and/or photocopies do not suffice.

If possible, request a few copies of your license before you’re even married.  The Clerk’s office will send you these copies as soon as your license is official (meaning as soon as your wedding officiant signs and sends back your license after your wedding).

PLEASE NOTE:  while it might sound fun to purchase your honey moon tickets in your new, married name… your name is not official just because you’re married!  If you are traveling overseas, I suggest bringing a letter indicating that you are officially married signed by the officiant.  And, bring at least 2 forms of photo ID that match your name pre-marriage, as a precaution.  Getting delayed at the airport because your names don’t match is not the best way to start a vacation!
